We knew it couldn't last forever. Avatar was finally knocked from its coveted #1 spot atop the box office charts, surprisingly, by the war-centric romantic drama Dear John.

Dear John took the top spot this weekend with $32.4 million, dashing hopes that Avatar would remain at #1 for eight consecutive weekends. Dear John, which is based on the popular Nicholas Sparks novel, far exceeded Screen Gems' expectations, which were set at around $20 million. The picture cost $25 million to produce.
Cameron's opus still fared well, bringing in $23.6 million, breaking the record for money earned in a film's 8th weekend, which was previously held by, of course, Titanic.
John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Myers landed in a distant 3rd place, with From Paris With Love earning only $8.1 million. Also disappointing this weekend was Mel Gibson's Edge of Darkness, which slipped 59% to land fourth with only $7 million. The $80 million movie has only earned $29.1 million so far.
Here's a quick breakdown of the top five:
- Dear John - $32,400,000
- Avatar - $23,600,000
- From Paris With Love - $8,120,000
- Edge of Darkness - $7,005,000
- Tooth Fairy - $6,500,000

Months after his affair with Brooke Hundley got him fired as a baseball analyst at ESPN, Steve Phillips has spoken out.
He sat down with Matt Lauer today and took full responsibility for his immoral actions, while also detailing his addiction to sex.
"What I want to do is take ownership," he said. "I made some mistakes ... I'm fully responsible for what I did."

The former New York Mets General Manager was recently released from Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services in Hattiesburg, the same clinic Tiger Woods reportedly attended for his issues.
Phillips referred to it as a place for people who are "broken" and "struggling to find answers."
To his credit, he didn't hide behind the addiction, saying:
"People look at sex addiction as an excuse; it's not an excuse. I'm fully responsible for everything that I did and accept responsibility for that. I've broken my wife's heart. I've damaged her and our relationship in a terrible way.
"I'm working my tail off to try to save my marriage ... [but] I don't know what the ultimate result will be."
Watch the interview below and sound off: Do you believe Phillips is sorry for his actions?

Big Love makes us feel as if we are on a speeding train that is going over 450 mph - without brakes. Only one thought keeps playing out in our minds:
How will this end? Only tragically, we imagine.

On "Sins of the Father," Bill's life is spinning out of control. Let's examine each aspect of Bill's world right now:
- The Margene/Ben/Bill love triangle. Margene just wants to be forgiven, but once Barb finds out what really happened, it seems like it will be a long and bumpy road for her. As much as her actions were a bit over the top, we do feel sorry for her. She is the third wife and barely gets any attention anymore from Bill or any of her sister wives. The only person who has been there for her is Ben. We can see how emotions can become confusing. Ben and Bill's relationship almost look unrepairable. By the end of the episode, we feel Bill knows his actions were wrong, but it was a little too late. Ben has gone off with Lois.
- Nicki and Bill's weird relationship. Isn't it ironic that Nicki gets in trouble for sneaking around and helping her father, but Bill is more than happy to have her working undercover for him in Colburn's campaign? How can he forgive her so quickly for her obvious feelings she had for her boss last season?
- What does Marylin want from Bill now? Obviously she is very smart and keen on what Bill is doing. She figured out that he doesn't want her in his casino affairs, but what really is she after? We see her as the one person who will mess everything up for him. She is his ticking time bomb waiting to go off.
All of Bill's choices have lead him to where he is today. One would say he is selfishly choosing what is just best for him and not really thinking of his family. The end scene where he is being carried away by his supporters shows that his nomination is the most important thing in his life right now.
Some would say we are being foolish into thinking Bill isn't a megalomaniac. But, if you've been a TV fanatic for Big Love like us, you would remember the good in him right from the very beginning. If the nomination pulls through as an actual win, it would be the miracle that he and his family needs. Having him be Senator would open the doors for his polygamist lifestyle. There would be no more need for their hiding ways - or so he hopes.
Until next week, here are a few of our favorite Big Love quotes from last night:
Barb: You just flirted your way into our marriage as a baby sitter and now you are a cradle robber.
Margene: F - you Barb. | permalink
Bill: I don't hate you - I just don't want to get into bed with you.
Marilyn: Well that's definitely not on the menu. | permalink
Bill: (to Nicki) In no small part thanks to you, you're my secret weapon. | permalink
Bill: This is do or die time the convention starts tomorrow. | permalink

I know it may seem impossible but some Republicans do understand the need for comprehensive climate and energy legislation.
Given, some may not entirely believe the climate change thesis, many do understand the national security, oil, and job creation aspects of it.
The most outspoken Republican is Sen. Lindsey Graham who has been working with Sens. John Kerry and Joe Lieberman to develop a comprehensive energy bill that all parties can agree on. He was recently quoted as saying that an energy bill that does not regulate carbon would be “half-assed”.
Sen. Graham continued to emphasize the importance of regulating carbon since it will lead to the investment in alternative technologies that will create new jobs, reduce our dependency on foreign oil, and allow us to be come a leader in such technologies.
Sen. Graham also expressed his concerns of China’s continued push into alternative and green technologies and stated that the longer the U.S. waits the further we will fall behind.

From running crossing patterns to appearing as a star-crossed lover...

On a sandy field that included former NFL stars such as Eddie George and Desmond Howard, Marisa Miller walked away with the 2010 Celebrity Beach Bowl MVP earlier today.
The super model only caught one pass, but she looked like this while doing it:

The event, held annually the day before the Super Bowl, was coached by the quarterbacks of the NFL's two New York franchises: Eli Manning and Mark Sanchez.
Who won? Men in attendance - as evidenced by Miller, Olivia Munn and the presence of numerous Playmates in the game - and teenage girls, as Taylor Lautner, Kellan Lutz and Chace Crawford all showed off their tight ends.
Click on the photos below for a closer look at the celebrities that suited up:

Ready for insight into which Lost characters will be featured in a trio of flash... parallels.
(Note to producers: it was a lot easier when we could refer to these episodes as "flashbacks." It was also a lot easier when we thought this show was just about people on an island, but we're not complaining.)

We've uncovered information on three March installments of the best show TV has ever seen. Read on if you wish to learn tidbits about what's happening in 2004 during these episodes...
- March 9: Ben-based. Says Michael Emerson: "You'll see a man who is only faintly recognizable as the Ben we've known. What if Ben had been born and lived in unextraordinary circumstances? What might he have been like?"
- March 16: All about Sawyer. Says Josh Holloway: Sawyer is "the same guy, but on the other side of the law."
- March 30: Sun/Jin-centric. Says Daniel Dae Kim: It is "a totally different relationship" as "they are no longer living in Seoul and Sun didn't have to leave Jin at the airport."
As for the next new episode, "What Kate Does?"
Check out a clip from it below.

In a recent interview with Hollywoodlife.com, Ryan Kwanten made one thing clear:
He's more than just a ridiculously attractive body. The True Blood star also has a good head on those broad shoulders.
When asked at the Producers Guild Awards about Taylor Swift possibly appearing on the HBO hit, Kwanten replied:
“I’d like Taylor [to guest star on True Blood]. That’d be kind of cool... I get the feeling that she likes to break down boundaries. She set a bunch of records, so why not get into the acting world and see if she can’t tackle that, too?"

Swift, of course, is already doing so, as she's one of 97 stars appearing in Valentine's Day. But we think she'd fit in perfectly on True Blood, don't you?
She could be a vampire and pretend each of her prey is Kanye West.

Ridley Scott's newest film, Robin Hood, an epic retelling of the classic story of the bandit who robbed from the rich to give to the poor, hits theater screens on May 14th, 2010. Scott's new vision for the film resembles the gritty, blue-tinted look of his previous Crusade-era effort Kingdom of Heaven, or the first 10 minutes of Gladiator.
So what's new about this interpretation of Sherwood Forrest? Well, for one, it looks like Scott's Robin Hood likes to talk in riddles. Two of the lines in this new television spot are easily some contenders for my "Most Ridiculous Movie Lines of 2010" list, right next to Harrison Ford barking "I already work around the clock" in Extraordinary Measures.
The two biggest offenders in Robin Hood are "You are your father's son," and "Are you ready to be who you are?" Yeah, in a Ridley Scott picture. I can only assume that because Scott is a known obsessive perfectionist that the lines won't sound as cheesy/confusing in the actual film as they do here, or that they're snippets of larger conversations and will make more sense/sound less bizarre in context.
Still, hear the new quotes of the week in the video below, and for more Russel-Crowe-on-horseback action, check out our Robin Hood pictures!

The terrible news for Fox viewers: Fringe is on hiatus until April 1. This is especially upsetting considering the incredible cliffhanger that ended last night's episode.
But there is a silver lining: the network will air a promising new show in its place, Past Life.
The drama actually premieres on Tuesday, February 9 at 9 p.m. It will then take over the typical Fringe slot on Thursdays.
On the 2/9 pilot episode, we meet Dr. Kate McGinn and her partner, former detective Price Whatley. They team up to assist Noah, a boy who suffers repressed memories from... wait for it... a past life!
We'll recap and review this show in-depth. For now, get an early look at scenes from the first installment via the photos below. Click on each to enlarge...
